Jill Mortimer has supported two amendments to the Rwanda Bill which focused on removing loopholes for migrant claims.
The first amendment Jill voted in favour of was proposed by Bill Cash and would exclude any international law from blocking removal of migrants. Robert Jenrick’s amendment focussed on removing the ability of individuals to block their own removals through suspensive claims.
These amendments would strengthen the Bill to prevent a build-up of new asylum claims from migrants which would cause huge delays to the asylum system and prevent deportation flights from taking place.
This follows a YouGov poll which showed 54% of Hartlepool residents would support the immediate removal of illegal migrants, with no right to appeal.
Speaking following the votes, Jill Mortimer MP said:
“My constituents are clear in their view. The people of Hartlepool want illegal migrants removed immediately, with no appeals.
“I stand for my constituents, and I have assured them I will do all I can to deliver a strong Rwanda Bill, which will remove illegal migrants efficiently and effectively.
“I will continue to do all I can and work alongside colleagues to deliver the strongest plan for the people of Hartlepool.”
