On Tuesday 5 December, Jill met with Victoria Atkins to give her an insight into Hartlepool’s NHS, and the push to bring vital improvements to Hartlepool’s hospital.
This was Jill’s first formal meeting with the new Health Secretary after the recent reshuffle and follows longstanding discussions with the Department for Health and Social Care.
The pair discussed the vital improvements needed to Hartlepool Hospital, and Jill reported how pleased staff and new mums were that the Rowan Suite was facilitating births in Hartlepool.
Hartlepool Hospital also welcomed news it had been awarded over £13 million for green-friendly improvements, in a bid supported by the local MP.
However, Jill remains firm that Hartlepool hospital requires more funding to become fully functional and best support local people.
Speaking after the meeting, Jill Mortimer MP said:
“Today I have made it clear that I remain committed to lobbying for further funding to provide a fair service to Hartlepool residents.
“This includes further support for our dentists, as many of our practices are longing to deliver more NHS services.
“Our recent successes, including £13 million towards eco-friendly improvements, and recognition for the knee and hip replacement team should be celebrated as examples of what we can achieve when we work together.”
