Dear Resident,
We are in a fight for Hartlepool's future, our country's future, and our way of life. If Labour take back Hartlepool, the positive change I have brought in since 2021 will be reversed. But the polls show that if Reform supporters lend me their vote on July 4th and Conservatives come out and vote, we would have enough votes to stop them.
Reform don't care about Hartlepool. Richard Tice arrived in a great fanfare, then he decided he couldn't win here and jumped ship for a better seat leaving his party scrambling to find a paper candidate.
I've read the Reform manifesto and l'll be honest, I can see why people might want to vote for it - but it's a fantasy. This is a party that doesn't expect to deliver its manifesto because the figures just don't add up. I'm sure Reform's candidate is a decent woman whose heart is in the right place, and I respect Nigel Farage and the political animal he is - I got on well with him when he interviewed me on GB news. But if he really wanted a right of centre government delivering for our Country, he could have worked with those of us on the common-sense side of my party to shape a better future. Instead, he is doing exactly as Tice intended - splitting the right-wing vote to help Labour win.
I don't mind admitting - sometimes I've been as frustrated as you when Conservatives have made mistakes, but there is also a lot to be proud of. I know that we led the country out of the EU, we worked throughout the pandemic to keep our businesses and families afloat with unprecedented amounts of financial support, and, when the economic effects of Putin's war took hold, we gave support with energy bills.
I've delivered on my promises to Hartlepool - over £75,000,000 investment secured in three years - this is on top of extra investment and support into our schools and our community, a plan to secure the long-term future of our Nuclear Power Plant, and the ongoing fight to return hospital services. My team and I have resolved over 8000 pieces of residents' casework after years of Labour neglect. With your help I want to keep going.
So, on 4th july I am asking you to please vote for me. Who would you rather have representing you when you wake up on July the 5th? The Labour candidate, a teacher and former pupil at an out of town private school and a negative local councillor who allowed the loss of services from our local hospital? Or myself, with a track record of delivery who stood up for you in Parliament when others were silent?
This has not been an easy letter for me to write. I don't like to be negative about others, and I don't like self-promotion - I prefer to just get on with the job. But this election is just too important, and I am sure that like me, you don't want to see Starmer and Raynor running our country.
On July 4th vote for Jill Mortimer.
